Chilli Onion Bhajees

Often served as a snack or great with some vegetable samosas, some plain rice and dollop of mango chutney!
Great to make at any time of year.  We use dried chillies for this recipe.

Onion Bhajees

Ingredients : 
  • 125g chick pea flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 150ml water
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder (Cayenne powder is fine)
  • Oil for frying - we use Rapeseed oil as it has a nutty flavour
  • 1 tablespoon fresh coriander
Easy peasy to make...

1) Sift the chick pea flour into a bowl with the ground coriander, cumin and chilli powder.  Add the salt and then stir in the water to make a batter
2) Peel and chop the onion and then mix into the batter with the fresh coriander.  
3) In a deep fryer or large saucepan, heat some oil and when it is hot, carefully drop a desertspoon of the batter into the oil and fry for about 5 minutes. You can fry several at once.    Fry until crisp and onion is cooked through.
4) Drain the bhajees on kitchen towel to remove excess oil and serve immediately!
