Blackcurrant Chilli Brandy

Blackcurrant Chilli Brandy

This is a superb recipe at this time of the year. We are picking loads of blackcurrants at the moment for our new Blackcurrant Chilli Vinegar and our Blackcurrant Chilli Sauce, but it is worth saving a few extra fruits for this amazing drink.

Drink it neat or pour a little into a glass and top up with chilled white wine.

Easy to make but make sure to give it time to properly mature. Believe us, it is worth the wait.

Ingredients :

  • 1kg blackcurrants
  • 600ml brandy **
  • 2-3 Red chillies (Jalapenos are fine).
  • 400g sugar
**Also works well with vodka and gin

1) Wash and strip the blackcurrants of their stems.
2) Put the blackcurrants, chillies and sugar into a blender and roughly blend for 10-20 seconds.
3) Tip the mush into a 1.5 litre preserving jar (sterilised) and pour the brandy over the top.
4) Seal the jar, then store in a cool dark place, shaking the jar every few days.
5) After 2 months, pour the liquid through a sieve lined with muslin into a sterlised jug.
6) Pour into sterlised bottles, seal, label and store in a cool dark place prior to use.

Make it now, enjoy it in September when summer has finally arrived!

It can be made without chillies and is equally delicious but we like the subtle chilli kick.
